DaVinci Resolve
What is Power Bin?
A Power Bin in DaVinci Resolve is a special type of folder that is shared across all your projects.
Unlike regular bins, which only exist inside the specific project you are working on, anything you put into a Power Bin will be instantly available in every other project you open in that database.
Why use it?
It is the best way to store assets you use repeatedly so you don't have to import them every time you start a new video. Common uses include:
- YouTube Assets: Intros, outros, "Subscribe" animations, and channel watermarks.
- Branding: Logos, standard lower thirds, or font templates.
- Audio: Sound effects (whooshes, risers) or background music you use frequently.
- Adjustment Layers: Pre-made color grades or zoom effects saved as adjustment clips.
How to enable Power Bins
By default, Power Bins are hidden. To turn them on:
- Go to the Media page or the Edit page.
- At the top of the Media Pool (where your files are), click the three dots (...) menu icon.
- Select Show Power Bins.
- A new section called "Power Bins" will appear on the left side of your Media Pool, below your regular bins.
The "Secret" Feature: Dragging Timelines
One of the most powerful tricks with Power Bins is that you can drag Fusion Compositions or even entire Timelines into them.
- If you build a complex text animation in Fusion, drag that clip into your Power Bin.
- In your next project, just drag it out of the Power Bin onto your new timeline, and it will work immediately with all your effects intact.
